Day 8 (Monday)

Well Poppy has been with us a week now, and I think we can say is well and truly settled in.  The dogs were all given new soft toys yesterday evening as a treat (Abbie and Joey normally destroy theirs within a few hours) but this time was different.  Poppy was given the small teddy, and appreciated it, gave it a good chew and a lick.  Abbie was given the big panda, very pleased and went to the bottom of the garden with it.  Joey was given the fluffy brown bear - not impressed, dropped it, and went back inside - this was obviously the cue for Poppy to start her mischief!

Brown bear came out, had a chew and a lick, but all the while eyes were on Panda.  Abbie is so pleased with her new toy and the fact that Joey hasn't destroyed it yet, that she has to show everyone - bad move, when this included Poppy - who promptly latched on to said Panda and tugged.  "Oh no, puppy has it - must let go" says Abbie. We have always said she is a bit stupid!

Mischief didn't stop there though - there is a small hole in the grass, but Poppy just manages to collapse at that point every time; some would say convenient!  So the hole gets larger and larger, so Dad covers it with a heavy parasol stand.  That should sort it out.  But no!  Not for a determined and very clever puppy, who uses both her nose and her splayed paw to full advantage, to gradually dislodge the stand and get back her hole!

This disabled pup needs just as many guidelines as a healthy 4 month old.

This morning's walk was excellent, real excitement, and in particular as she met Bouncer again, who I think she is very keen on, and also Martha (collie-lab cross).  So the return trip had to be done is stages, as she used up all her energy bounding up to Bouncer!  It seemed to work though, just letting her lie-down for 30 seconds or so before she was obviously about to tire completely and by the time we got home she was ready for further mischief!

Dad is armed with chews, toys and tuggers for the rest of the day's proceedings!
