Day 17 - Wednesday

Dog club day again today, so very hopeful that Poppy would have enough energy to attend (and that there may be a few other dogs to meet).  Well we were in luck, as Ollie the 14 week old border collie was in attendance.  Poppy loved him immediately, and effectively anything Ollie was asked to do, she at least tried to do.  So we did heel walking around a bucket, find the treat in the bucket, go through the tunnel (treat pot went through as well the first time, but then she just thought it was good fun!), lie down stay, return to heel, recall across the yard (not very far, but came with a bound - bless!), and to show off to Auntie Sheila - "on the mat" which was done to perfection.

This all took about 30 minutes, obviously not constantly on the go, but with small breaks.  After that she was pretty tired and laid down on her mat, getting up now and again when Ollie did something fun, or to get in his way when he was supposed to be concentrating on a recall or something similar - what a rascal.  By the end she was totally whacked so got a good carry out to the car - but I can safely say she had a great time.  Her tail did not stop wagging the whole time.

When we got home, I was really worried that she would be too tired, but she managed to drink her water initially standing up, and then came to lie down with us in the lounge.  At bed time she was very sleepy, so I snuck a cuddle with her, holding her like a baby in my arms - very lovely getting licked all over my face for my trouble.

So whilst a tiring day a very enjoyable day for Poppy and one that will become a treasured memory in the future.
